We envision our role as forerunners in making psychological counselling in Hong Kong and Asia will be realized in the years to come.

History

The establishment of Asian Professional Counselling and Psychology Association (formally knows as Asian Professional Counselling Association) was in August, 2004 after a long period of gestation of 15 months. Its birth came from just a gleam of thought, aiming at providing a forum for continuous learning and personal growth for the counselling professionals and promotion of the counselling profession.

For almost past two decares, our association has been working very hard in providing professional guidance and continuous support to counselling professionals. We promote quality education for both the training and ongoing development of psychological counselling professionals and to raise the standards of the counselling profession for the benefit of the community as a whole. Besides, in order to promulgate ethical and evidence-based psychological counselling practice, we have designed and conducted research in the field of psychological counselling, and our official journal, the Asia Pacific Journal of Counselling and Psychotherapy published by Taylor & Francis, delivered its inaugural issue in March, 2010.

In order to promote the highest standards of quality professional psychological counselling service and client care, we emphasize the counselling practice based on the science of psychology. Asian Professional Counselling and Psychology Association is our new name (APCPA) starting from Nov, 2015. We envision our role as forerunners in making psychological counselling in Hong Kong and Asia will be realized in the years to come.
